Activities and Places of Interest

There are so many activities and places of interest to visit on the stunning island of Lanzarote.  We have detailed a few of our favourites below, along with some contacts for excursion companies.
Timanfaya National Park

The Montañas del Fuego, although volcanically dormant, show temperatures of up to 610°C recorded at a depth of 13 metres, and up to 277°C at just 10cm. Visitors get to witness demonstrations of this intense heat as straw auto-ignites after being dropped into a shallow pit, steam gushes out of the ground moments after being poured into a hole as cold water, and the gravel under your feet is hot enough to burn your hand!

Papagayo Beaches

A string of golden sand beaches and small coves with clear turquoise waters make up the beautiful Playas de Papagayo. Situated within the Los Ajaches Natural Park, with the stunning backdrop of the Ajaches mountains, it’s not hard to see why this is one of the most photographed areas of Lanzarote. The sheltered bays usually have calm waters and little current, making it great for families with small children. The clear waters of Papagayo beaches also make it a fun place to snorkel.

 Mirador del Rio

A superb
cliff-top viewpoint, offering amazing panoramic views over the archipelago of small islands that lie off Lanzarote’s North coast. There is a good amount of parking and also a cafe at the viewpoint to enjoy a drink and something to eat.

Jameos del Agua

Located in the North of Lanzarote is a series of collapsed and semi-submerged volcanic tubes that were converted into a tourist attraction in the 1960s and 70s by the late Lanzarote-born artist, César Manrique. Jameos del Agua is part of a 6km-long volcanic tube formed during the eruptions of the nearby Corona Volcano some 21,000 years ago.
